All team India players have been fined 20 per cent of their match fee for managing a poor over rate. Bowling first in the first ODI match against Australia, the Indian side were one over short of the target after further time allowances. Match referee David Boon has penalised the Indian players after they failed to complete their quota of 50 overs in time.

The Indian captain Virat Kohli has accepted the offence and proposed sanctions imposed by the International Cricket Council (ICC) and there will not be any formal hearing regarding the matter. On-field umpires Rod Tucker and Sam Nogajski, TV umpire Paul Reiffel and fourth umpire Gerard Abood levelled the charge against the Indian team.

Meanwhile, the first ODI between India and Australia went way beyond the expected finish time. The match was anticipated by finish by 10 pm local time in Sydney but an extra hour had to be played for its completion. Several commentators during the match had raised questions on both teams for maintaining a shocking run rate.

After the match, Steve Smith also admitted that it was the longest 50 overs in the field he has ever been part of in his career. The intensity of the team India dropped as mentioned by skipper Kohli which probably resulted in their extremely slow over rate.

The second match of the ODI series between the two sides will be once against contested at SCG on Sunday. The hosts will be aiming to wrap up the series whereas India will be aiming to make it 1-1.
