The Rohit Sharma-led Indian men’s team is set to debut a brand-new jersey in the upcoming three-match ODI series against England at home, serving as a preparatory event for the 2025 Champions Trophy. The series kicks off on Thursday at Nagpur’s VCA Stadium.
The new kit, featuring a tri-colour gradient on the shoulder blades, is a departure from the one India wore during their tour of Sri Lanka in July last year. This jersey will be sported by the Indian men’s team during both the England ODI series and the Champions Trophy.
However, it was first introduced by the Harmanpreet Kaur-led women’s team during their recent home series against Ireland last month. The kit was officially unveiled in November last year by former BCCI secretary and current ICC Chairman Jay Shah, alongside the women’s team.
India Unveils New Kit for England ODI Series Ahead of Champions Trophy
In their new kit, India aims to overcome past challenges as they prepare for the Champions Trophy. With no ODI since July 2024, the series against England is crucial for finalizing their playing XI, amid uncertainty over a possible practice match in Dubai.
All eyes will be on captain Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, who have faced heavy criticism due to their struggles in red-ball cricket. After disappointing performances in the Ranji Trophy last month, both players will be looking to regain form in the format they have excelled in for years.
Kohli was the top run-scorer of the 2023 World Cup with 765 runs, while Rohit scored 597 runs. India will also need to assess the strength of their bowling attack, particularly with concerns over Jasprit Bumrah’s fitness.
The 31-year-old pacer, who has been sidelined since January due to back spasms, is yet to be confirmed for the Champions Trophy, even though he has been named in the squad. This puts the focus on Mohammed Shami and Arshdeep Singh to lead the pace attack during the England ODI series.
