Team India batter Virat Kohli opened up on his passion for Test cricket. He expressed that he believes the format is the foundation of the sport, and it’s a different feeling to be playing Test cricket. The veteran is arguably one of the best batters across formats in World Cricket at the moment.

Virat Kohli has played over a hundred Test matches for India, scoring 8676 runs at an average of 49.29. He also has a remarkable leadership record, winning 40 Tests as a captain. Ahead of the much-anticipated series against South Africa, Kohli spoke about his passion for the format. He said to Star Sports,

“Test cricket to me is the foundation of the game. It’s history, it’s culture. it’s heritage. It’s everything to come out on the other side at the end of four days, five days or whatever the Test goes on to, it’s a different feeling to anything else that you experience.”

I am a traditionalist: Virat Kohli

Virat Kohli has always spoken about the importance of promoting Test cricket. He expressed that he is a traditionalist, who believes that playing Test cricket is the top achievement. He also added that it has been an honour for him to represent India in over a hundred Test matches. Virat Kohli said to Star Sports,

“As an individual, as a team, the job satisfaction of having played a long innings for your team, making your team and a Test match is probably the most special for me. I’m a traditionalist. You can say, so for me playing in whites, in Test cricket, is everything.”

“That’s what I’ve grown up on and I’m really honoured that I’ve been able to play more than 100 Test matches for my country and I’ve managed to pursue my dreams of being a Test cricket,” he added.

India is set to play a two-match Test series against South Africa. The first match will take place from Tuesday, December 26 at the SuperSport Park in Centurion. Meanwhile, the Newlands ground in Cape Town will host the second test.
