Indian leg-spinner Ravi Bishnoi faced a challenging period from September 2022 to August 2023, during which he was not selected for the national team in T20 cricket. Despite his notable performances in the IPL, his exclusion from India’s T20 World Cup 2022 squad raised eyebrows.
Although Bishnoi admitted to being unaware of the reasons behind his omission, he expressed gratitude towards his coaches for their support, which prevented him from feeling disheartened. He remained focused on the process and eventually earned his place back in the national team.
Ravi Bishnoi was quoted by TOI regarding his omission from the Indian team, stating:
“I did not know what the reasoning was behind leaving me out. My two coaches, Pradyot Singh Rathore and Shahrukh Khan, ensured that i stayed in the right frame of mind and kept giving my best whenever I had an opportunity, be it in the IPL or domestic games.”
”Thankfully I never felt insecure and changed the way I bowled. I just bowled more and focused on my batting.”
Bishnoi expressed his aspiration to be part of India’s T20 World Cup 2024 squad, scheduled for the West Indies and the USA in June. However, he emphasized that his primary focus at the moment is to contribute to winning games for the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in IPL 2024.
Yashasvi Jaiswal has inspired me to pursue Test cricket: Ravi Bishnoi
Ravi Bishnoi, Tilak Varma, Dhruv Jurel, and Yashasvi Jaiswal were all members of India’s U19 World Cup squad in 2020, which reached the final in South Africa. Bishnoi is delighted to see his teammates achieving their dream of representing the senior team.
He was particularly impressed by Yashasvi Jaiswal’s recent performance in the Test series against England and expressed his own desire to play red-ball cricket for India. Bishnoi remarked:
“They have fought hard with life and it’s good to see that the boys I played with at the U19 level have made it to the senior team as well. I must admit that Yashasvi has now motivated me to play test cricket.”
Jaiswal amassed an impressive 712 runs in the Test series, including two double centuries. Additionally, he recorded 625 runs during the IPL 2023 season. Similar to Ravi Bishnoi, Jaiswal sees IPL 2024 as a chance to secure his spot in the T20 World Cup squad.
