There isn’t a bigger name than James Anderson when it comes to Test pacers across the world. He is the highest ever wicket-taker in Tests among fast bowlers by a distance.
Anderson will go down in history as the greatest fast bowler the longest format of the game has ever seen. So when the guy talks about his craft, one better sits up and listen.
In an interview with Cricket7, he has spoken about a vast range of topics, including the Pakistan Tour of England in 2010. The 2010 tour is particularly remembered for the spot-fixing saga involving Mohammad Asif, Salman Butt and Mohammad Amir.
Talking about it, he surprisingly revealed that he learnt a lot from the infamous Asif. He said, “In summer 2010, we played against Pakistan and Mohammad Asif was bowling this ball which just wobbled a little bit, it was not seaming nor swinging, he was just trying to nip off the seam. So I spent the whole summer practising that and working on it and was comfortable to bowl here [in Australia] which actually brought success for me throughout that series.”
Having a modern-day great talk about picking something up from your game is no small praise for Asif. He always had the knack of troubling top batsmen across the world, and could have really blossomed into a great fast bowler, had he not been distracted off the field. In 23 Tests, he picked up 106 wickets, showing signs of his promising talent.
