Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chief Ramiz Raja has put forward an idea to host quadrilateral tournaments to revive the India-Pakistan rivalry. Currently, both neighbouring countries play only in ICC events and multi-nation tournaments amid the prevailing political tensions between the two countries.

The quadrilateral series will involve cricketing giants India, Pakistan, Australia and England. The four-nation tournament will be played in T20I format with Ramiz Raja set to take up the agenda in the next ICC meeting.

Taking to microblogging site Twitter, Ramiz Raja wrote:

“Hello fans. Will propose to the ICC a Four Nations T20i Super Series involving Pak Ind Aus Eng to be played every year,to be hosted on rotation basis by these four. A separate revenue model with profits to be shared on percentage basis with all ICC members, think we have a winner.”

While the idea will surely help to revive the lost India-Pakistan rivalry, the concerning bodies need to work on multiple fronts to materialise the idea.

The last time Pakistan toured India for a bilateral series was in 2012/13. The two-match T20I series ended in a draw with both teams winning a fixture each. Pakistan won the ODI series 2-1.

“Impossible right now” – Ramiz Raja on India-Pakistan rivalry after assuming office

Back in September after assuming office as the PCB chairman, Ramiz Raja had opened up on India-Pakistan bilateral ties, saying that it is impossible right now.

“Impossible right now…because the sporting model has been spoiled by politics and right now it is a status quo and we are not in a hurry on this issue because we have to focus on our domestic and local cricket,” Ramiz said.

It will be interesting to see if we see things materialise and India and Pakistan playing each other in bilateral series.
