The BCCI Has Disclosed Its Strategy For Upgrading Cricket Stadiums Prior To The World Cup

In the 19th Apex Council meeting, the board decided to carry out the upgradation in two phases, with the first phase focusing on the venues selected for the World Cup.

The decision was made to ensure that all the stadiums are prepared before the commencement of the tournament.

Additionally, the BCCI made several other key decisions during the meeting. They discussed formulating a policy for players, including retired ones, regarding their participation in overseas T20 leagues.

The board also confirmed the participation of both the men’s and women’s teams in the Asian Games scheduled to be held in September 2023.

However, due to the overlap with the World Cup schedule, players not participating in the World Cup will represent India at the Asian Games.

The BCCI also announced the continuation of the Impact Player concept in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, with some variations from the previous season.

A decision was made to incorporate two bouncers per over in the upcoming Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy in order to maintain a fair equilibrium between batting and bowling.

In terms of the World Cup itself, the tournament will feature ten teams playing across ten venues from October 5 to November 19.

The opening match will be held at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, featuring defending champions England and runners-up New Zealand.

India’s World Cup campaign will begin with a match against Australia on October 8 in Chennai

The other venues apart from Ahmedabad and Chennai include Bengaluru, Delhi, Dharamsala, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Lucknow, Mumbai, and Pune.

The tournament will adopt a round-robin structure, where every team will compete against each other in 45 league matches.

The top four teams will advance to the semi-finals, scheduled to be played in Mumbai and Kolkata.

The semi-finals and final will have reserve days to accommodate any disruptions due to weather or other factors.

Overall, the BCCI’s plans and decisions aim to ensure the successful hosting of the World Cup, while also considering player participation in other events and implementing improvements in domestic tournaments.
