The International Cricket Council (ICC) recently announced the revenue share percentages from its USD 600 million pool, with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) emerging as the highest earner. However, the BCCI is set to receive a staggering USD 230 million, representing 38.5 per cent of the total ICC revenue for the 2024-27 cycle.

On the other hand, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) will receive 5.75 per cent, amounting to USD 34.51 million. While the PCB‘s share has nearly doubled compared to previous cycles, they expressed dissatisfaction with the current revenue allocation system. The PCB had been seeking additional information and clarity on the criteria and calculations behind the distribution.

In a statement, the PCB emphasized that such a significant decision should not be rushed without a complete understanding of the relevant factors.

The PCB proposed that the voting process for model approval should be deferred until the next ICC meeting. However, this suggestion was not accepted by other members, leading to the finalization of the revenue distribution model.

Despite their reservations, the PCB acknowledged that the increased share of revenue would allow for greater investment in developing cricketing skills, which would benefit the growth of Pakistan cricket.

They expressed optimism about taking Pakistan cricket to new heights with this enhanced financial support. Additionally, the PCB confirmed that the schedule for the hybrid model of the Asia Cup will be released in the upcoming week.

The hybrid model is expected to feature matches played in both T20 and ODI formats, bringing together teams from the Asian region. The revenue allocation percentages have significant implications for cricket boards, as they determine the financial resources available for infrastructure development, talent nurturing, and overall growth of the sport.

The substantial share earned by the BCCI reflects India’s dominant position in global cricket and its commercial strength. However, the comparatively smaller share of the PCB raises concerns about the financial challenges faced by cricket in Pakistan.

Moving forward, discussions about revenue distribution models and the financial sustainability of cricket boards are likely to continue, as the sport seeks to strike a balance between rewarding the strong and supporting the growth of all member nations.
