On Friday, December 15, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) formally secured the hosting rights for the 2025 Champions Trophy by signing an agreement with the International Cricket Council (ICC).
The signing ceremony, attended by PCB chairman Zaka Ashraf and ICC General Counsel Jonathan Hall, took place at the headquarters in Dubai.
Recent reports suggested a potential relocation of the tournament from Pakistan due to security concerns. Given the improbable scenario of the BCCI sending the Indian team to Pakistan, there were speculations about relocating the event.
The PCB announced in a press release that preparations for the significant competition, particularly in terms of implementing security measures, have already commenced.
“The PCB in its capacity has already intimated the government to provide foolproof security to visiting international teams for the Champions Trophy.”
”Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar in a recent meeting with Chairman PCB Management Committee assured the security agencies’ cooperation in the successful hosting of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025.”
The subcontinent nation was chosen to host the 2025 Champions Trophy on November 16, 2021, after the T20 World Cup. Due to uncertainties, the ICC might think about moving the event or using a mix of approaches, similar to the Asia Cup 2023.
Pakistan will enter the 2025 edition as the reigning champions
The likely hosts will begin as frontrunners for the 2025 Champions Trophy, having clinched the prestigious title in 2017. Despite a less-than-ideal start, Sarfraz Ahmed’s team triumphed over teams like Sri Lanka, South Africa, and England, setting the stage for an exciting final against India.
Setting a target at The Oval, the Pakistani team scored 338, led by a century from Fakhar Zaman. Subsequently, their fast bowlers disrupted the in-form Indian batting lineup, dismissing them for 158. Mohammad Amir and Hasan Ali excelled as the top bowlers, each claiming 3 wickets.
