In the third and final T20I against Bangladesh, Sanju Samson delivered an outstanding performance, playing a key role in India’s highest-ever T20I score of 297/6. Samson, who opened the innings, partnered with captain Suryakumar Yadav to form a 173-run stand for the second wicket.

Samson scored his maiden T20I century, achieving the milestone in the second-fastest time for an Indian in T20Is. Despite the pressure of being in the 90s, Samson continued playing with aggression, refusing to slow down.

Suryakumar Yadav Questions Samson’s Approach

Following the match, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) shared a video of a post-match chat between Samson and Yadav. During the discussion, Yadav asked Samson why he continued to take risks while batting in the 90s, particularly when he was on 96 and chose to go for a big shot over the top.

Samson explained that the positive and aggressive team atmosphere encouraged him to continue attacking. “The message is, go be aggressive and humble,” Samson shared, adding that this approach suits his nature and mindset.

Captain’s Advice and Samson’s Response

During the same conversation, Samson revealed that Yadav had suggested he play cautiously when he was close to his hundred. However, Samson decided to stick with his aggressive approach. “When I was 96, I told Surya that I’ll smash, but Surya told me to go easy because you earned it,” Samson said.

Despite the advice, Samson was clear about maintaining his aggressive intent, inspired by the team’s philosophy, which was reinforced by both Yadav and coach Gautam Gambhir. Samson’s century was a testament to his belief in his own abilities and the clarity provided by the team leadership.

Samson’s bold approach, even in the high-pressure moments of being in the 90s, showcased his fearless mindset and the positive influence of India’s team environment. With the backing of his captain and coach, Samson remained true to his aggressive playing style, which ultimately paid off with a memorable century.

His partnership with Suryakumar Yadav not only helped India secure a record-breaking T20I total but also highlighted the trust and clarity that exist within the team. Samson’s performance, marked by confidence and calculated risk-taking, sets a strong foundation for his future in Indian cricket.
