India’s victory in the T20 World Cup 2024 thrilled captain Rohit Sharma. Rohit was eager to hold the prestigious trophy in his hands following a devastating loss at the ODI World Cup. On the last night of the tournament, India was about to lose to South Africa, but the bowlers performed a miracle in the final five overs, turning India into a party hotspot.

To celebrate with the players, thousands of supporters flocked to Delhi and Mumbai. On Marine Drive, in particular, spectators joined the winners as they completed the victory lap at Wankhede Stadium. The players entertained the stadium’s spectators with dances, renditions of “Maa Tujhe Salam,” and stories of their triumphant T20 World Cup.

Rohit, aged just 20 at the time, played in the victorious Indian team in the 2007 T20 World Cup tournament, which was also his first international cricket triumph.
“2007 was a different feeling, we started off in the afternoon and this is in the evening. I cannot forget 2007, as it was my first World Cup. This is a little more special because I was leading the team so it’s a very proud moment for me. This is going to be mad. You can make out the excitement and it shows how much it means not just to us but also to the entire nation. It means a lot. So, I am very happy that we could achieve something like this for them as well,” said Rohit in a video released by BCCI.

For Rohit, the celebrations didn’t exactly end at Wankhede as he was greeted at his Mumbai flat with lavish salutes, embraces, and a garland.
