Tilak Varma has been appointed captain of the India A squad for the upcoming ACC T20 Emerging Teams Asia Cup 2024, set to take place in Oman from October 18 to 27. The tournament, held in the T20 format for the first time, will see eight teams competing for the title. The format will feature two groups, each consisting of four teams.
The top two teams from each group will advance to the semi-finals, which are scheduled for October 25, with the final to be held on October 27. Varma, who has already made his mark with four ODIs and 16 T20Is for India, will be leading a promising team in this important event.
Rising Stars in the Squad
India A’s squad for the Emerging Teams Asia Cup includes several young and talented players. Among them are Abhishek Sharma, Nehal Wadhera, Ayush Badoni, and Sai Kishore.
Abhishek, fresh from his participation in the T20I series against Bangladesh, will be looking to regain his form. Sai Kishore, currently leading Tamil Nadu in the Ranji Trophy, brings experience and leadership skills, which will be crucial for the team. The squad also includes Rahul Chahar, who is making a comeback after his last appearance for India in November 2021. Chahar has played one ODI and six T20Is, and his return adds further depth to the bowling attack.
Tournament Structure and India A’s Group
In the tournament, India A is placed in Group B, alongside Pakistan A, UAE, and Oman. Group A consists of Sri Lanka A, Bangladesh A, Afghanistan A, and Hong Kong. The competition will see intense battles as these emerging teams aim to secure a spot in the semi-finals.
With a strong lineup of budding cricketers, India A will be looking to make a significant impact in this tournament. The Men’s T20 Emerging Teams Asia Cup provides an excellent platform for young talent to showcase their skills on an international stage and potentially secure a place in the senior national team in the future.
