The tournament has witnessed several huge scores, with batters smashing the ball all over the park over the years. The bowlers’ job has been made more difficult with the small boundaries and big bat sizes. However, the champion bowlers have still managed to make a mark for themselves and perform in challenging situations.

#5 Sunil Narine

Sunil Narine ranks fifth on the list of most economical bowlers in the Indian Premier League. The West Indies spinner has played 134 matches in the league and has taken 143 wickets, conceding 3,508 runs at an economy rate of 6.74. His statistics include seven four-wicket hauls and one five-wicket haul

The right-arm spinner has been an integral part of the Kolkata Knight Riders over the years. He was retained by the franchise ahead of IPL 2022 auctions. Sunil Narine will be keen to once again spin his web around the opposition batters in the Indian Premier League 2022.


#4 Muttiah Muralitharan

The legendary Sri Lankan spinner has an economy rate of 6.67 in the Indian Premier League. Muttiah Muralitharan represented the Chennai Super Kings, Kochi Tuskers Kerala, and the Royal Challengers Bangalore in the tournament.

Muttiah Muralitharan has 63 wickets to his name in the IPL at an average of 26.92. He played his last IPL match in 2014 against the Kolkata Knight Riders. The right-arm spinner is now the bowling coach of the Sunrisers Hyderabad squad in IPL 2022.


#3 Glenn McGrath

Glenn McGrath was part of the inaugural season of the Indian Premier League season in 2008 playing for the Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals). He played 14 matches that season, taking 12 wickets at an average of 29.75.

The legendary bowler ranks third in the list of most economical bowlers in IPL with an economy rate of 6.61. His best of 4/29 came against the Royal Challengers Bangalore. McGrath did not play a single match in the league after the 2008 season.


#2 Anil Kumble

The legendary Indian spinner has a good record in the Indian Premier League. He has picked up 45 wickets at an average of 23.51 in 42 IPL games. Kumble’s best of 5/5 came against the Rajasthan Royals in a low-scoring game in 2009.

Playing for the Royal Challengers Bangalore, he helped bundle Rajasthan Royals out for a paltry 55 runs. The former cricketer has an economy rate of 6.57 in the Indian Premier League. Kumble was appointed as the Head coach of the Punjab Kings squad in 2019 and continues to hold the position.

Rashid Khan tops the list as the most economical bowler in the Indian Premier League. The leg-spinner has been a match-winner in the tournament for the Sunrisers Hyderabad. He has 93 wickets to his name in 76 games, at an average of 20.55 and an economy rate of 6.33.

This year, the Afghanistan spinner will be playing for the Gujarat Titans. He was signed by the franchise for INR 15 crores before the IPL auctions. Rashid will be the key for the Gujarat titans in their debut Indian Premier League season.
