Delhi Capitals all-rounder Lalit Yadav recalled how skipper Rishabh Pant helped him to dismiss Eoin Morgan and Sunil Narine in the Indian Premier League (IPL) last season. Lalit proved to be quite a useful all-rounder for the franchise in the tournament.
Rishabh Pant used the off-spinner tactfully to earn success for the franchise. Lalit recalled an incident when the Delhi Capitals skipper helped him scalp two wickets against the Kolkata Knight Riders.
Speaking to the Times of India, Lalit revealed that he wasn’t impressed with the field that was set by Pant. However, the wicket-keeper convinced him to bowl, assuring that at worst, he will go for a boundary. Lalit narrated:
“Last year, I dismissed Eoin Morgan and Sunil Narine in the same over. I was not comfortable with the way Pant had set the field. He walked up to me and said, ‘Tu bass ball daal, zyaada se zyaada chauka lagega na.’ (You just bowl. At the most he will hit a boundary).”
He added that Rishabh Pant’s field and plan earned him Morgan’s wicket. The skipper asked Lalit to block Morgan’s reserve sweep. Lalit bowled a middle-leg stump delivery from round the wicket, which Morgan lofted towards covers. However, he did not get enough power behind it and gave away the catch to Steve Smith.
“He had set the field for me and gave me the plan. I bowled the way he told me to and I got the wicket of Morgan. He asked me to block his reverse sweep. Morgan hit me over covers and ended up giving a catch to a fielder. I didn’t plan that wicket. It was planned by Rishabh,” Lalit said.
I am confident Delhi Capitals will make it to the playoffs: Lalit Yadav
Delhi Capitals are in a very tough race to qualify for the playoffs of the Indian Premier League 2022 season. They are placed seventh on the points table with four wins from nine matches. The team’s inconsistent run this season has hampered their qualification chances.
The Rishabh Pant-led team will take on Sunrisers Hyderabad on Thursday, at the Brabourne Stadium. Ahead of the important clash, Lalit Yadav expressed that he is confident that Delhi Capitals will qualify for the playoffs. He said,
“I am confident DC will make it to the playoffs. We have some matches left to play. We have lost close-fought games too and we always say that the team which plays 40 overs perfectly, wins the match.”
The all-rounder further added, “We are focussing on the upcoming games and don’t want to become casual in any department. We will give our 100 percent.”
