India cricketer Suryakumar Yadav was all praise on Friday for his Super Over heroics against Pakistan in the T20 World Cup match at Grand Prairie Stadium in Dallas on Thursday. Saurabh Netravalkar is currently a member of the USA cricket team and was a former teammate of Yadav’s in Mumbai.
The batsman of Indian descent maintained composure during the one-over shootout, defending 19 runs as the United States pulled off their greatest-ever international victory and possibly the biggest-ever upset in the T20 World Cup’s 17-year existence.
The USA shocked Pakistan in a Group A match on Thursday night, causing one of the biggest upsets in the history of the World Cups (T20 or ODI). It took a Super Over display from an American born in Mumbai, Saurabh Netravalkar, to stun Pakistan, captained by Babar Azam.
After the scores in the 40-over game were tied, Netravalkar was assigned to defend 18 runs in the one-over eliminator in Dallas. Netravalkar led the USA to victory despite all odds being against them. He bowled beautifully, keeping his composure, giving up just 13 runs to secure a historic victory.
Suryakumar Yadav shared a story praising Saurabh Netravalkar’s performance:
Suryakumar Yadav used social media to promote his good buddy and former Mumbai colleague, Saurabh Netravalkar, who currently plays for the United States. He praised Netravalkar for his Super Over heroics for the United States against Pakistan in the Group A match of the T20 World Cup 2024 at Dallas’ Grand Prairie Stadium in Texas.
In addition to wishing his family in Mumbai well, Suryakumar turned to Instagram on Friday and shared a story praising Netravalkar’s performance against Pakistan in the Group A encounter.
Nearly ten years ago, when Mumbai played domestic cricket, the two shared a dressing room. Netravalkar also represented India in the 2010–11 U19 World Cup, which included players like Jaydev Unadkat, Mayank Agarwal, and KL Rahul.
The post read: “Saurabh Netravalkar, tula maanla bhau (I respect you, brother). Very happy for you and your family back home.”
The USA team’s next match will be against India on Wednesday, June 12, at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York.
