Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) defeated Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) by 75 runs in an one-sided encounter at MCA stadium in Pune. With this win, Lucknow topple Gujarat Titans to reach the top of points table, while KKR is almost on verge of getting knocked out of the race for playoffs.

While chasing the total of 177 runs, KKR once again got a poor start. They lost their top 4 wickets within the first 7 overs with just 30 runs on the board. Lucknow’s pace attack was breathing fire in the powerplay. Opening partnership has been a big concern for KKR in this season.

LSG chipped in with wickets at regular intervals which put a lot of pressure on KKR batsmen. Shreyas Iyer, Nitish Rana and Rinku Singh too were dismissed cheaply. KKR was left with an impossible task to achieve with Andre Russell batting.

The giant West Indian hit some breathtaking sixes and scored 45 runs in 19 balls which involved five monstrous sixes.Big show Russell was dismissed by Avesh Khan which ended all hopes of KKR. Avesh Khan was awarded man of the match for picking 3 crucial wickets.

LSG smash Shivam Mavi for 30 runs to post a daunting total

 

 

After being invited to bat first, Lucknow got a poor start. They lost the wicket of their captain KL Rahul in the first over. Rahul got run out without facing a single delivery. However , Quinton Decock and Deepak Hooda kept on attacking KKR bowlers in the Powerplay.

Quinton scored 50 runs in 29 balls, while Deepak Hooda scored 41 runs in 27 balls which put LSG in driving seat. But LSG lost their wickets in quick span. At the end of 18th over Lucknow had 142 runs on the board. They needed a strong finish. In the 19th Over, Marcus Stoinis and Jason Holder smashed Shivam Mavi for five sixes in an over. This strong finish helped LSG reach a total of 176 runs.
