Mumbai Indians eventually opened their account with a thrilling last-ball win over Delhi Capitals played at Arun Jaitley Stadium, New Delhi on 11 April 2023 in the IPL 2023.

Chasing down 173 runs to win, Rohit Sharma looked in sensational form putting pressure on Delhi Capitals right from the word go. He showed his intent from the first over keeping the momentum going for MI. At the end of the first six overs, MI raced away to 68 for 0.

Soon after, Ishan Kishan fell was with a direct hit by Mukesh Kumar. Kishan and Rohit added 71 runs for the opening wicket. Rohit Sharma completed his first fifty in IPL in 2021. MI captain led from the front with half-century off 29 deliveries. Tilak Verma came to the crease and looked in brilliant form showing his class hitting boundaries and sixes at will to keep MI on course for a win.

Tilak Verma hit 2 sixes and 1 boundary against Mukesh Kumar before providing a simple catch to Manish Pandey. Verma and Rohit added 68 runs for the 2nd wicket. Suryakumarā€™s poor form continued with an easy catch to Kuldeep Yadav at fine leg very next ball.

Rohit Sharma’s brilliant innings came to an end with a stunning catch by Abhishek Sharma to change the momentum. Tim David came as an impact player and struggled initially but hit 2 sixes in the 19th over against Musfiztur Rahman to leave 5 runs required last over.

Tim David was given a reprieve as Mukesh Kumar dropped a sitter. The match went right down the wire with 2 runs required off the last delivery, David took 2 runs helping Mumbai Indians open the account. Tim David and Cameron Green added unbeaten 30 runs for the 5th wicket. For his captain’s knock, Rohit Sharma was named the player of the match award.

Mumbai Indian bowlers did a superb job

Prithvi Shaw gave a decent start putting pressure on MI bowlers before Hrithik Shokeen dismissed Shaw with good catch by Green at square leg. Shaw and Warner added 33 runs for the opening wicket. Manish Pandey looked impressive and added 43 runs for the 2nd wicket along with Warner.

Piyush Chawla strangled DC’s batting getting the wickets of Rovman Powell and Lalit Yadav in quick succession. Axar Patel looked impressive with his shot-making keeping the scoreboard ticking. On other hand, David Warner did not look comfortable. DC captain Warner completed half-century off 43 deliveries while Axar Patel reached half-century off 22 deliveries. Axar and Warner added 67 runs for the 6th wicket.

Jason Behrendroff took wickets of Axar, Warner and Abishek Porel while Kuldeep Yadav was run out. Mumbai Indians bowled out Delhi Capitals for 172 in 19.4 overs.
