Former Indian captain Virat Kohli smashed a century off 85 balls against Bangladesh in the third and final ODI of the three-match series at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium, Chattogram, on Saturday. After having faced consecutive defeats in their first two games, India had to end the series with a win in their third one and they got off to a flying start as well.
However, it is also noteworthy that, earlier in 2015, Bangladesh defeated the Men in Blue 2-1 in the ODI series as well. As far as this game is concerned, Virat Kohli came to the crease with just 15 runs on the board in the fifth over when Shikhar Dhawan got out by Mehdi Hasan for 3 runs. Moreover, Bangladesh captain Liton Das dropped a simple catch when Virat Kohli was at 1, and he used this quite well by scoring his 72nd international century.
However, Virat Kohli reached his 44th One-Day International century with a six off the bowling of Ebadot Hossain in the 39th over of India’s innings. After breaking the century drought in international cricket three months ago, Virat Kohli returned to his form in the ODIs by smashing his first century in 25 innings, over 1214 days as well.
Meanwhile, Kohli’s century came shortly after Ishan Kishan’s onslaught of a 210-run knock, which made him the fourth Indian batter to score a double century and the fastest batter to reach a 200-run mark in ODI innings as well. The second-wicket partnership added an incredible 290-run stand for India as well. However, Virat Kohli also reached the three-figure mark with 11 boundaries and one six in 85 balls as well. His last ODI century came in 2019 when India travelled to the West Indies following the ODI World Cup as well.
