The wicket-keeper batsman from Pakistan, Umar Akmal has always been in the headlines for his controversial antics on and off the pitch. Earlier today, he once again received a sanction from the Pakistan Cricket Board after breaching their two of their anti-corruption code. He had failed to disclose corrupt approaches made to him.
Meanwhile, Umar has always found himself in the middle of controversy – as a result, his cricketing career couldn’t take off properly. Before these latest anti-corruption charges he found himself in hot water with the PCB for his alleged misbehaviour with a staff member after a failed fitness test at the National Cricket Academy in Lahore. He has last represented Pakistan in 2019.

Earlier, Umar Akmal had said during an interview that he received an offer of $200,000 by fixers to leave two deliveries in one of the matches. He also claimed that he was offered money to skip matches against India. The batsman also revealed that bookies approached him during ICC World Cup, including the 2015 edition played in Australia and New Zealand. However, Umar Akmal had failed to mention if he had reported this to the anti-corruption unit or not.

As a result of failing to report the approaches, the wicket-keeper batsman has been handed a three-year ban from all forms of cricket. As per ICC anti-corruption code 2.4.4 and 2.4.5, players shall report all the corrupt approaches made to them during any event and failure of doing so carry a minimum punishment of five years. Notably, Bangladesh Shakib Al Hasan also received a sanction last year for failing to report a corrupt approach.
