Urvil Patel Smashes India's Fastest T20 Century

Urvil Patel has smashed a jaw-dropping 28-ball century during the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT). This incredible feat is not only the fastest T20 century by an Indian but also the second-fastest in the history of the format.

Urvil Patel’s 28-Ball Century

Facing Tripura in Indore, Gujarat’s opener Urvil Patel unleashed an innings for the ages. Chasing a target of 156, Urvil reached his century in just 28 balls, finishing unbeaten on 113 off 35 deliveries. His knock included seven fours and an astonishing 12 sixes, with boundaries raining all over the ground. Thanks to Urvil’s heroics, Gujarat chased down the target in just 10.2 overs, leaving Tripura stunned.

While Urvil’s record is remarkable, it trails the fastest T20 century set by Estonia’s Sahil Chauhan, who scored a 27-ball ton against Cyprus earlier this year. Before Urvil, Rishabh Pant held the Indian record with a 32-ball century in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy back in 2018.

Urvil’s innings was a masterclass in controlled aggression. His ability to target specific bowlers, such as clobbering Tripura’s captain Mandeep Singh for 24 runs in one over, highlighted his strategic brilliance. With four sixes flying over midwicket and three down the ground, he made batting look effortless.

Urvil’s Journey in Cricket

Urvil Patel was signed by Gujarat Titans for Rs 20 lakh in the 2023 IPL auction. However, he was released before the 2024 auction and went unsold at his base price of Rs 30 lakh during the IPL 2025 Mega Auction.

Urvil Patel has made a notable impact in T20 cricket, playing 43 matches and amassing 875 runs at an average of 20.83 and an impressive strike rate of 154.32. His aggressive batting style is highlighted by 115 boundaries and 26 sixes, including four half-centuries with a top score of 96. In first-class cricket, Patel has participated in six matches, scoring 158 runs with a highest score of 60, averaging 14.36.

A standout moment in his career came on November 27, 2023, when he scored a blistering 41-ball century for Gujarat in the Vijay Hazare Trophy against Arunachal Pradesh in Chandigarh. This remarkable innings marked the second-fastest List A century by an Indian.
