The United States of America sealed a historic T20I series win over Bangladesh after a 6-run win in the 2nd match played at Grand Prairie Cricket Complex, Houston on 23rd May 2024.
Defending 145 runs to win, the USA got off to a great start as Sourabh Netravalkar got rid of Soumya Sarkar with a good catch on his follow-through. Tanzid Hasan and Shanto steadied the ship for Bangladesh with some positive strokes putting pressure on USA bowlers. Jessy Singh produced a lovely delivery to dismiss Tanzid Hasan. Tanzid and Shanto added 30 runs for the 2nd wicket.
Shanto and Hridoy showed intent keeping the scoreboard ticking making sure that Bangladesh was on course for a win. The experienced Corey Anderson produced a superb piece of fielding to run out Shanto. Hridoy and Shanto added 48 runs for the 3rd wicket.
Corey Anderson dismissed Hridoy taking an inside edge onto the stumps to leave Bangladesh in some trouble. Van Schalkwyk grabbed the wicket of Mahmudullah putting them under immense pressure. With 12 runs needed to win off the last over, Ali Khan got rid of Rishad Hossain to help the USA steal a famous 6-run win. Ali Khan dismissed Bangladesh veteran Shakib AL Hasan, Tanzid Hasan Shakib in his previous over to put enough pressure on the Bangladesh team.
Ali Khan was the pick of bowlers for the USA with 3 for 25 in 3.3 overs while Saurabh Netravalkar took 2 for 15, Shadley Van Schalkwyk also took 2 wickets, Corey Anderson 1 for 11 in 2 overs.
USA posted a decent total on the board.
Bangladesh captain Shanto won the toss and decided to field first. Steven Taylor and Monak Patel got off to a decent start with intent that put pressure on Bangladesh bowlers. USA ended the first six overs at 42 for 0.
Steven Taylor and Andries Gous went in quick succession. Taylor and Monak Patel added 44 runs for the opening wicket. Â Aaron Jones and Monak steadied the ship for the USA keeping momentum going taking singles and hitting boundaries that kept pressure on Bangladesh bowlers.
Mustafizur Rahman eventually broke the partnership between Monak and Aaron Jones. Both added 60 runs for the 3rd wicket. There were no major contributions from Corey and Harmeet Singh this time. Nitish Kumar and Van Schalkwyk scored valuable runs in the final over to help the USA post 144 for 5 in 20 overs. USA captain Monak Patel finished as the top scorer with 42 while Aaron Jones made 35.
