Vaibhav Suryavanshi has emerged as a new cricketing prodigy after a record-shattering performance in the IPL 2025. At just 14 years and 32 days old, the Rajasthan Royals batter became the youngest centurion in men’s T20 history.
His explosive knock of 101 runs off 38 balls, featuring 7 fours and 11 sixes, came against Gujarat Titans in Jaipur and broke the record for the fastest century by an Indian in terms of balls faced—35. His innings was the second-fastest IPL century ever. The stunning display of power-hitting didn’t just win him accolades, but also earned him a spot in the India Under-19 squad for the upcoming England tour.
Behind the Scenes, Discipline and Family Pride
Vaibhav’s success has come with lifestyle changes and family support. His father, Sanjeev Suryavanshi, originally from Bihar, revealed, “Now he takes a very balanced diet. He goes to the gym. He had gained a lot of weight. He has to reduce it.” Vaibhav has also given up traditional Bihari dishes like litti-chokha to maintain peak fitness.
Sanjeev expressed immense pride in his son’s achievements, saying, “It is a matter of pride for every father that he is known by his son’s name. Now wherever I go, I get a lot of respect. People also come to meet me. For us, it is like a dream come true.” He also thanked coaches Rahul Dravid, Zubin Bharucha, and Vikram Rathore for their belief in Vaibhav, adding, “Due to this, Bihar is getting fame all over the world.”
Grounded Despite Stardom
Even as Vaibhav experiences fame at such a young age, his father remains cautious about the pressure that comes with it.
“When you get fame at such a young age, it is important to handle it. I am a little skeptical, but Vaibhav understands this. He knows that this is just the beginning, he still has to play for the country.”
While the Rajasthan Royals didn’t make it to the IPL 2025 playoffs, Vaibhav did not go unnoticed—he won the IPL Super Striker of the Season award.
Reflecting on his first IPL stint, Vaibhav said, “My learning is that I have to do two times better than what I have done so that my team also plays in the final next year and how much I can contribute to my team, I will focus on that.” His maturity and commitment suggest a bright future ahead in Indian cricket.
