The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) revealed the squad for the upcoming three-match T20I series against Bangladesh on Saturday, September 28. Mayank Yadav has received his first call-up to the Indian team, while Varun Chakravarthy is making his return after three years.
India is set to face Bangladesh in a three-match T20I series starting October 6 in Gwalior. A key addition to the squad is fast bowler Mayank Yadav, who impressed batters with his fiery pace in the Indian Premier League (IPL 2024).
Suryakumar Yadav will captain a revamped India team in the T20I series against Bangladesh, following the current ICC World Test Championship series. Uncapped fast bowler Mayank Yadav, who reached speeds in the mid-150 kmph range during the 2024 Indian Premier League, is an exciting new inclusion in the squad.
Playing for LSG, Yadav took seven wickets in four matches, averaging 12.14 with an economy rate of 6.98 before injuries sidelined him for the remainder of the season. The 22-year-old made a strong impression in the T20 league, delivering a spectacular performance of 3/27 in four overs during Lucknow’s 21-run win over PBKS.
Consequently, Yadav was named Player of the Match in his IPL debut. He continued his impressive form with another Player of the Match display in his next outing against RCB, where he bowled a tight spell of 3/14 in four overs, leading his team to a 28-run victory over the Bengaluru franchise.
Unfortunately, Yadav’s promising IPL start was cut short after three matches due to a side strain, keeping him on the sidelines for most of the season. He made a return for the final game against MI, finishing with figures of 1/31 in 3.1 overs.
