Vidarbha showed their fighting spirit as they defended the lowest-ever total against Gujarat on 3rd morning of the 6th Round match played in Nagpur on 19 January 2023.
Vidarbha needed a great effort from their bowlers to bowl out Gujarat. Aditya Sarwate began the day by grabbing the wicket of Aarya Desai caught by Yash Thakur. The off-spinner got rid of Priyesh Patel in the very first over late on day 2. Harsh Dubey also produced the magic with 3 wickets giving away just 11 runs.
Sarwate just showed his magic keeping the pressure on Gujarat batters picking up wickets. He finished off the job by getting the wicket of Umang Kumar to help Vidarbha win the match by 18 runs. Vidarbha defended 73 runs and registered 6 important points.
The previous lowest total defended by a side in Ranji Trophy was by Bihar. They defended 78 runs against Delhi in the 1948/49 season. Bihar skittled out Delhi for a paltry total of 48 runs. Vidarbha made a strong comeback into the match after being bowled out for just 74 runs in the first innings. Sarwate was the top scorer for Vidarbha in the first innings with 17 runs.

Sarwate kept Gujarat batters under check grabbing 5 wickets for 64 runs. Jitesh Sharma produced the magic in the 2nd innings with a quickfire 69 off 53 balls, along with Atharva Taide 44, Akshay Wadkar 34 helped Vidarbha post 254 runs in the second innings setting Gujarat a modest total of 73 runs.
Sarwate came to the party with brilliant bowling not allowing the Gujarat batters to score runs easily. He picked 6 wickets for 19 runs in 15.3 overs and helped Vidarbha register a sensational comeback win. For his 11 wickets, Aditya Sarwate was awarded the player of the match award.
Vidarbha moves to the 2nd spot in Group D with 19 points. They will play their last fixture against Punjab on 24 January at Mohali.
