It was an amazing batting display by the New Zealand hard-hitting opener Martin Guptill who scored the joint 4th fastest century in T20 cricket during Vitality T20 Blast yesterday night. The match took place between Northamptonshire and Worcestershire at County Ground, Northampton.
In this year’s IPL, Martin Guptill was unsold. Northamptonshire was invited in to bat and scored 187 for 9 in 20 overs. Chasing the target of 188 runs to win, the New Zealand hard-hitting opener right from the start put pressure on the Northamptonshire bowling line-up smashing them to all parts of the ground.
Guptill reached his half-century off 20 balls and then continue to hit the Northamptonshire bowling line up. He played his sweep shots to the spinners while smashed the pace bowlers with ease. He reached his century off 35 balls. Both Guptill and Joe Clarke added 162 runs for the first wicket in 10.1 overs. He showed his hitting abilities making the bowling look ordinary.
During his 102 off 38 balls, Martin Guptill smashed 12 fours and 7 sixes with a strike rate of 268.42. Â Worcestershire chased down the target 188 for the loss of 1 wicket with 41 balls to spare.
He is one of the 6 batsmen to score double centuries in One-day international cricket. Guptill has played so far 159 ODI’s, 75 T20Is and 47 test matches. He has big scores with 237 not out in ODI’s, 105 in T20Is and 189 in test matches. His ability to destroy the bowlers makes him one of the dangerous batsmen especially ODI and T20I format.
Fastest century in T20 cricket
Chris Gayle holds the record of fastest century in T20 cricket. He made 100 off 30 balls for Royal Challengers Bangalore during an IPL match against Pune Warriors India in 2013 edition.
The hard-hitting left-handed batsman Risbabh Pant scored a century off 32 balls for Delhi against Himachal Pradesh during Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy match during 2017/18 season.
Andrew Symonds scored 100 off 34 balls for Kent against Middlesex during T20 tournament in England during 2004 season.
LP van der Westhuizen playing for Namibia scored a century off 35 balls against Kenya in Windhoek during in 2011. David Miller and Rohit Sharma reached centuries off 35 balls respectively in the 2017 year.
