Hit wicket is an unfortunate dismissal. It gets uglier if you are playing your first match on the tour. Yes, it happened. It so happened with the veteran Shoaib Malik who was hit wicket in the fourth ODI at Trent Bridge, Nottingham on Friday.
Here’s The Full Schedule of ICC Cricket World Cup 2019
The incident took place in the 47th over as Malik tried to cut the ball from Mark Wood bowling and rattled all the three stumps and was dismissed for quick fire 41 off 26 balls. On a batting pitch, Pakistan could only post 340 for 7 in 50 overs.
We say “only” 340, as Trent Bridge has been a batting paradise. The par score at Trent Bridge has been 365. A mammoth 481 was scored last year at this very venue by the hosts against the Aussies. It still remains the highest score in a men”s ODI.
At this very ground, the Englishmen in 2016 broke the then highest ODI score of 443 and posted 444 against the same opposition. Trent Bridge is one of the flattest wickets and has shorter boundaries as well.
Coming back to the game, for England, Jason Roy scored a sensational 114 off 89 balls. Despite a wobble in the middle, Ben Stokes played a key role in remaining not out on 71. He added vital runs with Tom Curran and Adil Rashid to guide England to a thrilling 3 wicket win.
Malik has been around in international cricket for quite some time. The veteran playing his last World Cup would be hoping to perform well. He was a part of the team which won the Champions Trophy 2017 played in England.
5 Cricketers playing their last ODI World Cup
Despite Fakhar Zaman 138 in the 2nd match at Southampton, 151 by Imam-ul- Haq in the 3rd ODI at Bristol and Babar Azam 115 off 112 balls has not helped Pakistan win matches.
