Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai was a venue for first of the three ODI matches against New Zealand. Whenever a match is played here you can rest assured that crowd will turn up in huge numbers, no matter against which team India is playing. But the occasion was big. It was Indian captain”s 200th ODI! Virat Kohli won the all-important toss and had no hesitation in batting first. The wicket did not look like a typical Wankhede pitch. The ball was not coming on to the bat nicely.
India lost both their openers pretty cheaply. Dhawan tried to run the ball down towards third man only to nick it while Rohit after hitting 2 sixes of Southee went for and expansive slog missing it completely and got knocked over. Boult had got New Zealand off to a sensational start.
The Indian captain came in to bat when India lost 2 quick wickets. He had a big job on hand to steady the ship. He was playing some sublime shots in his innings. As usual, he decided to counter-attack. He pulled one delivery over fine leg, which was good enough to clear the ropes. However, a ball boy jumped and got his arm out full stretch and took a blinder. Colin Munro who was fielding at boundary was impressed at the boy”s effort. Looking at his spectacular catch, commentators shouted, “Get him in colors!”
It is not known who the boy was but he was wearing whites and MCA U-14 cap. The young boys fielding skills will be surely looked at by his coaches. Who knows? He could turn out to be the next best fielder!
