India’s batting spearhead in the Australia tour 2014-15, Virat Kohli was seen fighting fire with fire in the face of Australia”s verbal pot-shots.
The incident happened in India’s first innings in the 3rd Test in Melbourne when Johnson had a shy at the stumps that struck the batsman in the back. This didn’t please Kohli who was batting on 84. After smashing Johnson for a four, Kohli moved towards Johnson and had a few words with the pacer to express his displeasure.
Never the one to shy away from an on-field showdown, the huffy Kohli was being called a “spoilt brat” by the Australians brought the best out of him as he smashed a career-best 169-run knock.
In the Press Conference referring to Johnson’s attempted run-out, Virat Kohli said “I was really annoyed with him hitting me with the ball, and I told him that’s not on. Try and hit the stumps next time, not my body. You have got to send the right message across.”
