A Sri Lankan fan recently taunted Indian cricket team batsman Virat Kohli with the name “Chokli,” according to a viral video. An X user, however, contends that this is incorrect and has posted an alternative video claiming it is the original one. This particular clip does not contain any voice overlaps in which someone is referring to Kohli as “Chokli”.
The initial clip which viralized across different social media platforms on Wednesday, 31st July, showed Kohli practicing his strokes in a studio with several team mates. But one supporter made things worse by calling him ‘Chokli’. He could be heard telling off the fan, saying:
“Not here.”

In keeping with an individual on X named Gaurav (@Melbourne__82), there hasn’t been any reference to the phrase “Chokli” as he called the actual recording of this event. When he passed on that piece of footage, he composed:
“Here’s the original clip… Most likely a fan was asking for Kohli’s autograph and Kohli replied not here.”

No such conclusion can be drawn from the seven-second clip that claims Kohli lost his cool on hearing the word ‘Chokli’ as many media reports have said (in the first clip). Some haters of Kohli on social media have come up with the word “Chokli,” which means that the batsman gets nervous when playing important matches.
As soon as Kohli got dismissed during the 2019 ODIs World Cup semi-final against New Zealand at Manchester when he made only one run, this theory began circulating on social media. He got out for just one run during both the 2017 Champions Trophy final against Pakistan & the 2015 ODI World Cup semi-final against Australia earlier.
Kohli, however, demonstrated he is a big match player by scoring half-centuries in the 2023 ODI World Cup final between Australia in Ahmedabad and the 2024 T20 World Cup final against South Africa inside Barbados.
Additionally, the 35-year-old had previously scored 72* from just 44 during the T20 World Cup Semi-finals match versus South Africa back in 2014 and knocked out 77 runs off of 58 balls during the final of this same ICC tournament against Sri Lanka.
The right-handed batsman also managed an impressive 89 not out off only 47 deliveries while playing a losing game with West Indies during the 2016 Mumbai based T20 World Cup semi-final match.
Virat Kohli’s performance against Sri Lanka in ODIs
In one-day cricket, Kohli (35) has an impressive history against Sri Lanka. In 53 matches, he has scored 2594 runs at an average of 63.26 and a strike rate of 93.91, with 10 centuries and 12 half-centuries to his name.
The highest score 166* of the right-handed batter came off just 110 deliveries at the Greenfield International Stadium in Thiruvananthapuram during January 2023. The number three batsman hit 13 boundaries and eight over boundaries during his great innings.
The three-match ODI series between Sri Lanka and India will start on Friday, August 2. Recently Kohli arrived in Sri Lanka. His absence was noticeable during the recently concluded T20I series because he had announced his retirement from this format after 2024 T20 World Cup.
