Kohli has played 591 innings and amassed 26,942 runs so far.
If he scores the required 58 runs in his next eight innings, he will become the first player in the 147-year history of international cricket to reach 27,000 runs in fewer than 600 innings. Currently, only Tendulkar, Ricky Ponting of Australia, and Kumar Sangakkara of Sri Lanka have surpassed the 27,000-run mark.
In other news, there is speculation about the possible revival of the Afro-Asia Cup. Damodar noted that the lack of support from African cricket authorities contributed to the failure of the tournament but emphasized that there is now a renewed push to reconsider its revival.
