Virat Kohli On The Verge Of Registering A Huge Record

All eyes will be on Virat Kohli as the Indian cricket team prepares to face Bangladesh in a Test series starting September 19. With Kohli having retired from T20 Internationals, fans will now witness his prowess in just two formats: Tests and ODIs. Kohli, often compared to Sachin Tendulkar, has consistently stated that Tendulkar’s achievements are unparalleled. Kohli has accumulated 80 international centuries, trailing Tendulkar’s record of 100.

Although it might take some time for Kohli to eclipse this record, he has a chance to set a new world record in the upcoming series against Bangladesh. Kohli needs 58 more runs to reach 27,000 runs in international cricket. Tendulkar holds the record for being the fastest to achieve this milestone, requiring 623 innings (226 in Tests, 396 in ODIs, and 1 in T20Is). Kohli has played 591 innings and amassed 26,942 runs so far.

If he scores the required 58 runs in his next eight innings, he will become the first player in the 147-year history of international cricket to reach 27,000 runs in fewer than 600 innings. Currently, only Tendulkar, Ricky Ponting of Australia, and Kumar Sangakkara of Sri Lanka have surpassed the 27,000-run mark.

In other news, there is speculation about the possible revival of the Afro-Asia Cup. If the tournament is reinstated, it could present opportunities for exciting partnerships, such as Virat Kohli teaming up with Babar Azam or Shaheen Afridi collaborating with Jasprit Bumrah. According to a Forbes report, there is renewed interest in reviving the Afro-Asia Cup.

Former African Cricket Association chair Sumod Damodar expressed regret over the tournament’s previous discontinuation, citing a lack of momentum and understanding of the concept. Damodar noted that the lack of support from African cricket authorities contributed to the failure of the tournament but emphasized that there is now a renewed push to reconsider its revival.
