Virat Kohli has found himself at the centre of controversy during India’s tour of England after allegations emerged involving his personal security guard. The incident reportedly took place in Cardiff, where India arrived for the second ODI of the three-match series.
According to RevSportz journalist Subhayan Chakraborty and Jagran News journalist Abhishek Tripathi, accredited media personnel were filming the team’s departure from a designated media area while carrying valid accreditation. They alleged that the incident occurred after Kohli had already boarded the team bus.

The journalists alleged that Kohli’s personal security guard confronted one of the reporters and repeatedly used abusive language despite the reporter identifying himself as an accredited journalist and showing his official media pass.
They further claimed the guard continued to behave aggressively. Abhishek Tripathi also alleged that the security guard had previously misbehaved with media personnel and damaged a fan’s mobile phone during the incident.

Journalist Questions Whether Kohli’s Security Guard Was Hired By BCCI Or Privately
In a post on X, Tripathi questioned whether the security guard was employed by the BCCI or privately hired by Virat Kohli, and called for action if the individual was part of the board’s security team. He also raised concerns over a player having a personal bodyguard.
Neither Kohli nor the BCCI has commented on the allegations, which remain unverified at the time of writing. No official statement has been issued. Notably, other Indian players, including Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan, were seen interacting with fans and signing autographs without personal security accompanying them.
Does BCCI Permit Players To Have Personal Bodyguards On Tours?
The controversy has drawn further attention as the BCCI’s disciplinary guidelines reportedly do not allow centrally contracted players to travel with personal security guards on overseas tours. Under the board’s 10-point code of conduct, players are not permitted to bring personal staff, including private security personnel, chefs or stylists.
Instead, security arrangements are handled by the BCCI in coordination with local authorities. The policy is aimed at maintaining team discipline, ensuring a unified environment and keeping all security protocols under the board’s control.
