Virat Kohli’s Struggle With Consistency: What’s Going Wrong?

As of now, one of the best cricket players around the globe is Virat Kohli, and he has recently failed to perform to his full capabilities. In his first decade of international cricket, Kohli had already set the bar very high by producing match-winning innings around the globe. However, in the past five years, he has not been consistent and his best friend—consistency has let him down several times.

He has been struggling in the ongoing Test series against Australia. Except for this hundred in the second innings of the Perth Test, he has failed to get runs; he was able to score only 67 runs in six innings at an average of 11.16. Kohli has been comprehensively dismissed for three times below ten, raising concerns in the cricket world over his form.

On an average till 2019, he had scored 60.50 in wins along with 3872 runs in 44 tests with 13 hundred. But since then, his batting average has equated to 31.21, down by 48.41% and he has one century to his name.

On the other hand, Joe Root has been central to England’s victories, providing 3286 runs from 32 games with a striking average of 67.06, 12 tons to his name and 12 fifty-plus scores. Kane Williamson has been a top performer, scoring 1937 runs in 27 Tests at an average of 101.94, including 10 hundreds and two fifties.

Steve Smith is also notable, with 1453 runs in 24 innings, four hundreds, and of highest score of 200. Comparing Kohli to some of his counterparts, particularly the others who have set remarkable records when it comes to match-winning contributions, then it is rather alarming to find that he’s in a rather bad patch.
