Former Indian cricketer Virender Sehwag has backed young Arshdeep Singh’s selection for the upcoming series against South Africa. India are slated to lock horns with the Proteas a couple of days after IPL 2022 ends.

Arshdeep, who was retained by Punjab Kings (PBKS), have done impeccably good so far this season. He has been economical and has been exceptionally well in the death with an economy of around six runs per over.

In the wake of his stellar run, Virender Sehwag said that Arshdeep Singh deserves to get his debut India Cap in the home T20I series against South Africa. Sehwag believes that youngsters should be given chances in the home series as this will give rest to main bowlers for England tour.

“You are talking about the T20 World Cup, I would say he should get a chance in the next series against South Africa in June. You’ll know how he bowls against an international team and he’ll get some experience too. You can give your main bowlers a break because there are T20s in England as well. Those who have performed in the IPL can be picked for the home series. Umran Malik, Arshdeep, and Avesh Khan can be tried,” said Sehwag on Cricbuzz show.

Although he has picked up only three wickets in eight appearances, he boasts an economy of 7.70 runs per over, bowling mainly in the powerplay and in death overs.

Not much difference in pressure at IPL level and international cricket – Virender Sehwag

The cricketer-turned-commentator went on to say that there isn’t much difference in pressure at IPL and international cricket level. The only difference is in the gaps in quality that are present in IPL. In international cricket, usually, teams have almost all bases covered

“So there isn’t much difference from IPL to international cricket. The only thing is you get some batters in the IPL against whom you can bowl well and be on your way. But in international cricket, all are the top batters from a country so being successful against them is a challenge.” added Sehwag.
