Indian Premier League ( IPL ) 2021 which was suspended after the Covid-19 spread is all set to resume real soon. The second half of IPL 2021 will begin on September 19 in United Arab Emirates ( UAE). Although the pandemic is not over yet so all the matches will be happening in a strict bio-bubble. Former Indian cricketer Virender Sehwag has pinpointed that star Sri Lanka spinner Hasaranga will be on the radar of several IPL teams.
Notably, many players might miss out on the second phase of Indian Premier League ( IPL) 2021. As many international games are happening during this period. So teams will have to find new players for the tournament. It’s a fact IPL has helped many players to take off in their careers. So, many cricketers show interest in participating in the marquee T20 league. Recently Sri Lanka spinner Wanindu Hasaranga became the talk of the town for his performance against India. Notably, Hasaranga was the most consistent performer for Sri Lanka in the limited-overs series. He even won the Player of the Series award in T20I. Sehwag believes that many franchises would be interested in including Hasaranga in their squad.
“He bowled brilliantly. And the two wickets he took in the middle – of Sanju Samson and Ruturaj Gaikwad – broke India’s back. I think there was some news that Hasaranga is targeting a few IPL teams as a replacement player I mean he was hoping for something like that and he proved himself… it doesn’t get bigger than this. Those who would be thinking of picking him would be saying ‘we need to talk to him and get him as a replacement player. He delivered the right performance at the right time.” Sehwag told to Cricbuzz.
“If there are discussions, and someone needs a spinner – he (Hasaranga) could be the guy”: Ashish Nehra
Wanindu Hasaranga picked 10 wickets in five matches, which included a sensational spell of 4/9 in the 3rd T20I. After his performance, even Muralitharan said the IPL franchise should go for Hasaranga in the auction. Ashish Nehra pinpointed if franchises want to add spinners to the team,Hasaranga will be on their list.
“Only time will tell which franchise needs a replacement. But if there are discussions, and someone needs a spinner – he (Hasaranga) could be the guy. If a player plays for a year and a half, he is considered a senior player in T20Is. He is the No. 2 ranked T20I bowler, although I do not believe much in rankings.” Nehra said.
