“Was Important For Me To Keep Up The Strike Rate Right Through” – Virat Kohli

Virat Kohli is once again in the spotlight, this time for his strike rate. He scored a whopping 92 runs off just 47 balls in a match for Royal Challengers Bangalore against Punjab Kings. With six sixes and seven fours, he ended with a strike rate of 195.74. While the strike rate has come under the scanner, this knock has answered his critics.

“Was important for me to keep up the strike rate right through (laughs). I was just focussed on taking the momentum forward. There was a tricky phase when Rajat got out, and there was a break for rain and hail. We had a bit of stop of momentum, Had to rebuild for 8-10 balls. Once the base was set and Cam got a few boundaries away, I thought I had to go again. Surface was pretty dry underneath, and there was some grass coverage as well,” Kohli said after the match.

“If you saw Faf and me got done by lack of pace off the pitch. There was a two-paced feel with the new ball, which I think is a great opportunity for our bowlers to make early inroads and exploit that swing out there. We thought anything over 230 would be a good total here. That was the only mindset,” he further added.

Virat Kohli recently remarked that those who critique his strike rates and spin-playing abilities are the ones discussing those aspects. He emphasized that his focus is on winning games for the team, something he has been doing consistently for 15 years. Kohli questioned the credibility of those who haven’t experienced such situations firsthand yet critique the game from the sidelines.
