[WATCH]- A Ground Staff Member Bows To Virat Kohli By Touching His Feet Ahead Of The Second Test Against Bangladesh In 2024

One of the ground staff members at Green Park in Kanpur showed a touching gesture by touching Virat Kohli‘s feet before the second Test against Bangladesh on September 27. The toss was postponed because of heavy rain the previous day, which left the outfield wet.

As the ground staff began to remove the covers while the Indian players warmed up, one staff member rushed over to Kohli as he headed toward the pitch for batting practice. You can watch the video here:

While Kohli’s remarkable achievements on the field have led to such gestures over the years, his recent performance has been inconsistent. The 35-year-old has recorded just one half-century in his last 17 international innings—the 76 he scored in the 2024 T20 World Cup final against South Africa.

He made his return to Test cricket in the first match against Bangladesh in Chennai after missing the entire five-match home series against England earlier this year. However, he only scored 6 and 17 in that match, despite India’s impressive 280-run victory. With the crucial tour of Australia approaching in November, the team hopes to see their star batter regain his form.

Play resumes after a one-hour delay in Kanpur

The second Test between India and Bangladesh finally commenced after an hour’s delay due to a wet outfield in Kanpur. Indian captain Rohit Sharma surprised many by winning the toss and choosing to bowl first.

The hosts maintained the same lineup of three seamers and two spinners as in the first Test, leaving left-arm spinners Kuldeep Yadav and Axar Patel on the sidelines for another game. Bangladesh’s openers got off to a strong start, reaching 26/0 in the ninth over before pacer Akash Deep took two wickets. He dismissed Zakir Hasan for a duck on 24 balls and then sent Shadman Islam back for 24 runs.

The double strike brought Bangladesh’s score down from 26/0 to 29/2 in just 22 deliveries. Currently, the visitors are in a rebuilding phase, with captain Najmul Hossain Shanto and experienced batter Mominul Haque contributing an unbroken 13 runs for the third wicket, bringing the total to 42/2 after 14 overs.
