[WATCH]- Alyssa Healy Arrives On Crutches For The 2024 T20 Women’s World Cup Match Against India

Australia captain Alyssa Healy was seen using crutches before the important Group A match against India in the 2024 T20 Women’s World Cup at Sharjah Cricket Stadium on Sunday, October 13. The wicketkeeper-batter suffered a calf injury while running between the wickets in their recent nine-wicket victory over Pakistan.

Healy left the field retired hurt near the end of the game and had difficulty putting weight on her injured leg. While returning, she had trouble climbing the stairs and was seen hopping to reach the dressing room, preventing her from attending the post-match presentation.

The severity of her injury is still unclear, but since she was on crutches, it’s likely she won’t be able to play in the match against India. If the 34-year-old recovers quickly, she may have a chance to participate in the knockout rounds.

Australia has already lost one player for the tournament, as Tayla Vlaeminck has been ruled out after dislocating her shoulder while attempting to save a boundary during the match against Pakistan. Cricket Australia has named Heather Graham as her replacement.

The defending champions remain unbeaten in the tournament, having secured strong victories against Sri Lanka, Pakistan, and New Zealand, putting them at the top of the group with one game remaining.

Tahlia McGrath is leading Australia in place of Alyssa Healy

With the captain absent, Australia vice-captain Tahlia McGrath will lead the team. The Women in Yellow have chosen to bat first after winning the toss, making two forced changes to their playing XI due to the injuries.

“We are gonna bat first, put up a score on the board. This is third game here, looks like a slightly better surface than the previous ones,” stand-in captain Tahlia McGrath said at the toss.

Beth Mooney is expected to take over wicketkeeping duties in Healy’s absence, and a change in the opening partnership is also necessary.
