Former Indian skipper Virat Kohli, known for his on-field aggression, showcased a lighter side on Day 2 of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 opener on Saturday, November 23, at Perth Stadium.

The 36-year-old had a tough time with the bat, managing only five runs off 12 deliveries as India was bowled out for 150. Contributions from Rishabh Pant (37) and debutant Nitish Kumar Reddy (41) provided some resistance.
India’s bowlers, however, delivered a stellar performance. Stand-in skipper Jasprit Bumrah led the charge with a five-wicket haul, while Mohammed Siraj and Harshit Rana supported effectively, restricting Australia to 104.
“Too Early To Judge Him” – Michael Vaughan On Virat Kohli’s Tactics In 1st BGT Test 2024-25
Former England captain Michael Vaughan was surprised by Virat Kohli’s strategy of stepping outside the crease to face the Australian bowlers on Day 1. Speaking to Fox Cricket, the 50-year-old remarked that few batters would opt for such a tactic on a bouncy pitch.
โIt is too hard to judge him. Coming out of the crease in Perth when the ball is bouncing is a tactic not many try to pull off and he went for that. It bounced and he found the outside edge. But I think that now we have seen Australia (bat), this was clearly kind of a pitch where you had to be proactive because thereโs plenty of balls out there,โ he said.
“So generally in this era of the game, when the pitch does anything, players try to play aggressively and try to do things to disrupt the bowler. Itโs not a tactic I would have used. But … Virat Kohli is a legend of the game and you had to try to do something,โ Vaughan added.
Kohli has faced challenges in Test cricket in 2024, with an average of only 21.25 across 7 matches.
