Indian players have been motivated to exceed their limitations and demonstrate their exceptional efforts on the field by the custom of awarding the “Best Fielder Medal.” Axar Patel scripted Australia’s defeat in their massive chase of 206 in St Lucia on Monday by producing a one-handed stunner to dismiss Mitchell Marsh.

Before Axar’s enchanted apparition next to the boundary rope enabled Kuldeep Yadav to dismiss the opposition captain, Marsh—who was dropped twice during the Powerplay—was leading Australia’s pursuit.

In the ninth over, Marsh successfully dragged Kuldeep’s length ball behind the square. After leaping into the air and using his right hand to pluck the ball, Axar landed on the ground without incident.

Australia was defeated by India by 24 runs on Monday in the Super Eights of the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024, and bowling all-rounder Axar Patel of India was named “Fielder of the Match.”

India took control of the game when Axar Patel, using his non-dominant right hand, caught Mitchell Marsh‘s ball in the ninth over of the second inning. After Kuldeep Yadav delivered a length ball on the pads, Marsh dragged it behind the square, where Axar easily completed the catch.

The fielding coach for India, T Dilip, praised the Men in Blue for their dedication to each catch while he was presenting the medal.

“Phenomenal effort, boys. Everyone, well done. When it comes to fielding in the Caribbean, we will always test our metal. From boundary to infield, we covered every gap, but the masterpiece was our commitment to every catch that we have done. With this kind of determination, whether it’s adjusting to the wind or speed in the outfield, we were top-notch. Lastly, we clearly show that we are here to dominate,” T Dilip said.

India defeated Australia by 24 runs in their last Super Eight match in St Lucia to advance to the T20 World Cup 2024 semi-finals.
