[WATCH]- Ben Stokes Injured Himself, Casting Doubt on His Availability for the Sri Lanka Tests

Ben Stokes, the England Test captain and Northern Superchargers all-rounder appears to have suffered a serious injury during The Hundred 2024 game against the Oval Invincibles at the Old Trafford in Manchester. He was helped by two of the Supercharger’s support staff members while limping out.

Having been thrown off balance early in the innings when Ollie Robinson ran a single ball which ended up on the leg-side despite his attempt to play a ramp shot. Although Stokes made it safely to the striker’s end, he went tumbling down holding on his left knee and hamstring immediately tossing away his gloves.

Durham’s all rounder had earlier injured his finger during 2021 edition of the tournament and looked totally crushed after realising how bad this particular one was. You can watch the video here:

So far, in the two innings that he has batted, the left-handed batsman has made no significant contributions. He scored 0 runs against Birmingham Phoenix and 2 runs against Welsh Fire. He had 2 when he was forced to retire hurt as a seam-bowling all-rounder.

Ben Stokes’ availability for the Test series against Sri Lanka is uncertain

A setback which means that the all-arounder hailing from Christchurch has little chance of being fit for the three-Test series against Sri Lanka, commencing on 21st August at Old Trafford in Manchester. If the 33-year-old is prevented from participating in the series, Ollie Pope is probably going to take charge.

There are already worries about other players’ health prior to the Sri Lanka series since Zak Crawley and Dillon Pennington cannot play because they have injured their right fingers and hamstrings, respectively.

The injury to England’s regular captain could see the number of uncapped batsmen in while Jordan Cox makes his debut. Coming back home after a confidence boosting win over the West Indies (3-0) the Britons are now looking forward towards a great finish to their red-ball season as they try to reclaim the Richards-Botham Trophy.
