The second Test between England and New Zealand is heading towards an exciting finish at the end of the fourth day played at Basin Reserve, Wellington on 27 February 2023. And, Ben Stokes made headlines with his epic reaction towards a fan.
Starting on the overnight score of 202 for 3, Kane Williamson looked in fine form putting pressure on England bowlers. Daryl Mitchell provided an attacking display of batting scoring a quickfire half-century. Tom Blundell and Kane Williamson kept the scoreboard ticking not allowing the England bowlers to settle.
Williamson gained confidence with every shot and completed his 26th Test century. Williamson and Tom Blundell looked to build a huge lead before Harry Brooks got the breakthrough dismissing Williamson via review for being caught behind. The umpire called not out but on review, it was overturned to out. Williamson and Tom Blundell added 158 runs for the 6th wicket. After the fall of Williamson’s wicket, New Zealand lost wickets in quick succession to bowled out for 483 runs. Jack Leach was the pick of bowlers with 5 for 157 in 61.3 overs.

Chasing down 258 runs to win, Zak Crawley looked a little iffy against Southee but provided an attacking display of cricket. Tim Southee stunned Crawley with a beauty to dismiss Crawley. Crawley and Duckett added 39 runs for the opening wicket. Ollie Robinson came as nightwatchman along with Duckett. England ended the 4th day on 48 for 1 with 210 runs still needed.
Kane Williamson surpassed Ross Taylor’s record to become the highest run-getter for New Zealand in Test matches.
Ben Stokes’s reaction toward placard
Ben Stokes showed a stunning reaction toward a female fan’s placards. Towards the end of day 4, the cameraman caught a female fan sitting with her boyfriend with a unique banner for Ben Stokes.
It read: “Ben, my boyfriend’s here to see the cricket. I’m here to see you.” The camera then panned towards Stokes and saw the giant screen and shook his head. Stokes did not know about the reaction being said on the field by teammates or toward the placard of the female fan.
The incident found on social media said with few saying that Jonny Bairstow was spotted. England would be looking to win the second Test needing 210 runs to win with 9 wickets remaining.
