Indian cricketer Cheteshwar Pujara is in great form playing for the Sussex team in the ongoing County Championship. The middle-order batter is eyeing a comeback into the Indian Test squad, after being dropped from the team.
Sussex is playing against Middlesex at the County Ground in Hove. The match witnessed an exciting contest between Cheteshwar Pujara and Shaheen Shah Afridi. LV= Insurance County Championship posted a video from the contest on their Twitter handle. Pujara could be seen getting troubled by the pacer’s bowling on a couple of occasions. However, he managed to slam an upper-cut off Afridi’s bowling to ease the pressure.

Cheteshwar Pujara could not contribute much in the first innings for his side. He was caught for 16 runs off 10 balls, by Max Holder off Ethan Bamber’s bowling. Sussex managed 392 runs, on the back of a century by Tom Alsop, and a 99-run knock by Ali Orr. In reply, Middlesex scored 358 runs, handing Sussex a lead of 34 runs.
In the second innings, Cheteshwar Pujara is unbeaten on 24 runs off 38 deliveries. On the other hand, Shaheen Shah Afridi had a great outing in the first innings. He took three wickets conceding 97 runs in 27.4 overs. The Pakistan pacer dismissed the opener and the centurion from the last innings, Ali Orr for a duck. Meanwhile, Sussex leads by 96 runs in the third session on day three of the match.
Cheteshwar Pujara shines for Sussex in the County Championship
Cheteshwar Pujara is the leading run-getter for Sussex in Division two of the ongoing County Championship. He has slammed 580 runs in seven innings so far in the tournament, at an average of 116.00.
The Sussex batter made 203 and faced 334 balls against Durham in the last game, scoring his second double century in three matches. He scored 201 runs on his debut this season for Sussex against Worcestershire. The runs have kept Pujara in contention for a place in the Indian squad for the test match in England later this year.
