David Warner has silenced his critics with an emphatic response, marking his farewell Test match with a stylish century against Pakistan in Perth. Despite recent scrutiny and doubts raised by former teammate Mitchell Johnson, Warner’s performance on the opening day at Optus Stadium asserted his rightful place in the team.

As he reached the century milestone, Warner conveyed a message to Johnson and other skeptics during the tea break, celebrating his achievement with a roar of emotion.

Talking to Adam Gilchrist, Warner said: “There is going to be criticism, but you have got to take that and there is no better way to silence it than to put runs on the board.”

Following the last session, Warner characterized his celebration as a “pleasant, subdued moment,” clarifying that it wasn’t specifically aimed at Johnson alone.

David Warner further continues: “It’s just anyone who wants to write stories about me and, you know, trying to use headlines get headlines, that stuff doesn’t bother me. It’s just the fact that I have to go out there, do what I have to do. And I’m allowed to celebrate how I want.

Mitch is entitled to his opinion. He’s a former player. You saw Justin Langer’s comments have said he’s entitled to it. You can go back to Justin Langer’s comments and refer to them, and so be it.

Before the commencement of Thursday’s opening day, David Warner found an unexpected ally in the form of England cricket legend Michael Vaughan, who came to the defence of the opener. Michael Vaughan further praised Warner by saying: He’s one of the greats. I don’t understand why people aren’t talking about him being a great player.

The fact he has made mistakes in the past, I guess, there’s friction there with him and a few ex-players (and) I guess there’s friction there with him and a few Aussie supporters.

(But) if you actually put all that to one side and look at his numbers, he’s only had one blip and that’s his batting in England against Stuart Broad around the wicket.”
