Deepti Sharma scored a six, leading London Spirit to a four-wicket victory over Welsh Fire to win The Hundred 2024 women’s competition at Lord’s on Sunday, August 18. She struck the decisive runs off Hayley Matthews with her team needing four runs from the final three balls.

The six had been hit on the 98th ball of London Spirit run chase. Deepti came down the track against Matthews, lifting high over long on. Shabnim Ismail missed the catch at the boundary ropes and the ball landed on the cushions.

Ismail looked dejected while Deepti was seen celebrating with her batting partner Charlie Dean. And after able to claim victory, the rest of the team members went over to Deepti for a congratulatory embrace.

Deepti concluded the match having scored 16 runs with one ball remaining, including the defining six of the game. In the final showdown, she was able to take one wicket as well. In all, this season, Deepti amassed 212 runs and took eight wickets across eight games in The Hundred tournament.

London Spirit defeated Welsh Fire to claim their first The Hundred trophy in the women’s competition

London Spirit beat Welsh Fire to clinch their maiden title in full glory. Asked to bat first, Welsh Fire manage 115/8 in their allotted 100 deliveries. Jess Jonassen turned out to be their star bat, scoring 54 runs from 8 boundaries.

Hayley Matthews (22 runs off 26 balls) and captain Tammy Beaumont (21 off 16 deliveries) also contributed runs. That battle was won by London Spirit through Eva Gray who had 2 wickets at the top of the order alongside Sarah Glenn with 2 while Tara Norris and Deepti Sharma bagged one each.

In response, London Spirit chased down the target with two balls to spare. Georgia Redmayne was the top scorer with 34 while Heather Knight (24 from 18) and Danielle Gibson (22 from 9) helped Deepti Sharma hit the winning runs for her side.

One other such bowler was Shabnim Ismail endowed with 3 wickets for 24 runs whereas Freya Davies as well as Georgia Davies picked a single wicket each on her behalf so did they? The London Spirit have therefore become only third women’s team to win The Hundred trophy after Oval Invincibles (2021), 2022 and Southern Brave in 2023.
