[WATCH]- “Doesn’t It Come From Within To Step Aside?”: Journalist Confronts Shan Masood With A Tough Question At The Press Conference

Pakistan Test captain Shan Masood is facing pressure after five consecutive losses since replacing Babar Azam. His tenure began with a 3-0 defeat against Australia, and recently, the team suffered a historic 0-2 home loss to Bangladesh.

As a result of the recent outcomes, Masood and the team have been under inspected before the home Test series with England. The anger of the fans and pundits is at a different level now, and it was the same when a reporter asked an outright question to the captain.

One of the journalists, known as Javed Iqbal, asked why the idea of resigning has not yet entered the mind of Shan Masood. The captain of Pakistan was taken aback by the daring inquiry and immediately looked over at the media manager as if to call on their help to control the situation.

“Shan, abhi aapne bola ki jab tak voh mauka de rahe hain toh aap avail karenge. Par kya kabhi khud se khuddari nahi aati ki haar gaye, performance nahi ho rahi, toh chhod k chale jaaye?” (Shan, you just said that as long as you’re given the opportunity, you’ll avail it. But doesn’t it come from within to step aside when you’ve been losing and the performances aren’t there?)” the journalist asked.

Sami ul Hasan, the director of media and communication for PCB had to plead with the journalists to think of their questions before asking them. He further scolded them and reminded everyone that Masood was the captain and thus must be respected.

“While it’s simple to make changes after a defeat, we need to support our players if we want to progress”- Shan Masood

Following successive series defeats and suffering a notable points penalty owing to a slow over rate, Pakistan’s chances of reaching the World Test Championship (WTC) final have been all but extinguished. Nevertheless, the Men in Green’ require results to appease an irate home crowd, with pride being another factor.

“We are at a critical juncture as a team and we have to remain optimistic. The losses hurt, but it’s important to support the team, especially during tough times. It’s easy to make changes after a loss, but if we want to move forward, we must support our players,” Masood said during the press conference.

The first Test match between Pakistan and England is set to start in Multan on Monday, October 7.
