[WATCH]- Gareth Delany Takes A One-Handed Catch Off His Own Bowling During The IRE vs CAN T20 World Cup 2024 Match

Ireland leg-spinner Gareth Delany made an impact with the first ball of his spell in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024 match against Canada at Nassau International County Stadium in New York. The 27-year-old casually took a one-handed catch to dismiss Dilpreet Bajwa for 7 off 9 balls.

The dismissal happened in the 9th over when Paul Stirling brought in spin. Bajwa attempted to play a slightly shorter delivery to the onside but ended up with a leading edge, which Delany caught one-handed.

The right-hander had hit a beautiful boundary off Barry McCarthy in the previous over and appeared to be in good form. Witness Gareth Delany’s effortless one-handed catch off his own bowling in the IRE vs CAN T20 World Cup 2024 match here:

Before Delany dismissed Bajwa, Craig Young had taken the wickets of Aaron Johnson and Pargat Singh, and Mark Adair had removed Navneet Dhaliwal. Stirling had won the toss and chosen to field first.

Gareth Delany did not bowl in the 2024 T20 World Cup match against India

The Dublin-born cricketer didn’t bowl during Ireland’s opening match against India in New York. Ireland suffered a heavy defeat to Rohit Sharma’s team, losing by 8 wickets after scoring only 96 runs. However, the 27-year-old top-scored for Ireland with 26 off 14 deliveries, helping them reach closer to 100 after they were at 50-8 at one point.

However, the total was insufficient as Rohit Sharma and Rishabh Pant played significant innings. The Indian captain scored 52 off 37 balls before retiring hurt due to an elbow injury.

Rishabh Pant remained unbeaten, finishing the match with a spectacular reverse ramp shot. After the game against Canada, Ireland will play against the USA on June 14th and Pakistan on June 16th.
