New Zealand cricketer Glenn Philips left everyone stunned with his spectacular catch during the second Test against Australia on Saturday, March 9 at the Hagley Oval in Christchurch. His one-handed effort put an end to Marnus Labuschagne’s brilliant knock in the first innings.

The incident took place in the sixty-first over of the Australian innings. Tim Southee bowled a good length delivery wide outside the off-stump. Labuschagne went chasing but got a top edge. The ball flew towards the point, where Glenn Philips put in an acrobatic effort. He dived to his right, and grabbed the ball with one hand, to leave everyone amazed. Labuschagne had to walk back for 90 runs from 147 deliveries, with twelve boundaries.

Marnus Labuschagne powers Australia to first-inning leads

Australia took the first-innings lead in the second Test against New Zealand at the  Hagley Oval in Christchurch on the back of Marnus Labuschagne’s brilliant knock. They kept losing wickets at regular junctures, however, Labuschagne kept one end strong. He put on 90 runs, stitching small partnerships to help them get the lead. Australia managed 256 runs, and a lead of 94 runs. Matt Henry took a seven-wicket haul in the innings, while Tim Southee, Ben Sears and Glenn Philips took one each.

At the end of the second day’s play, New Zealand put on 134 runs for the loss of two wickets. Will Young and Kane Williamson are back in the pavilion. Meanwhile, Tom Latham and Rachin Ravindra will resume the New Zealand innings on the third day, with a lead of 40 runs. Earlier in the match, Josh Hazlewood took a five-wicket haul to bowl New Zealand out for 162 runs. Tom Latham was the leading run-scorer in that innings, with 38 runs.

Australia won the first Test by 172 runs, at the Basin Reserve in Wellington.
