Watch: Harry Brook Struggles Against Varun Chakravarthy’s Spin

England’s vice-captain Harry Brook faced difficulties tackling Indian spinner Varun Chakravarthy during the T20I series at Eden Gardens. In the first match, Brook attributed his dismissal to the “smog,” claiming it hindered his ability to read the spinner’s deliveries.

Despite his explanation, the scenario repeated itself in the second game, where Brook once again fell victim to Chakravarthy’s spin. Commentators Ravi Shastri and Sunil Gavaskar took the opportunity to mock Brook’s earlier remarks during their live coverage, making the situation more amusing for viewers.

Brook’s Comments on Facing Spin

Ahead of the second T20I, Brook acknowledged his struggles against Chakravarthy’s bowling, particularly under challenging conditions in Kolkata. He pointed out that the smog in the first game made it difficult to pick the ball, expressing hope for clearer conditions in the second match. “Hopefully, the air is a bit clearer here, and we can see the ball better,” he remarked. Brook also admitted that spin is one of the most challenging aspects of T20 cricket, adding that he often loses his wicket while attempting to play aggressive shots against spinners.

Commentators’ Lighthearted Remarks

Former India coach Ravi Shastri took a humorous jab at Brook ahead of the second match, quipping, “Good news for Harry Brook: there’s no smog here.” Later, when Chakravarthy dismissed Brook in the seventh over, Sunil Gavaskar added a witty comment: “The light is clearer here; there’s no smog.” The playful banter highlighted Brook’s ongoing challenges against spin and added a lighthearted touch to the match commentary.
