A video capturing a female fan swiftly consuming a glass of beer during the SA20 match between MI Cape Town and Paarl Royals at Newlands in Cape Town on Friday, January 19, is making rounds on social media.

Cape Town emerged victorious, defeating the Royals by eight wickets in the 11th game of the 2024 SA20 edition. The Royals, batting first after losing the toss, posted a score of 172-8, but Cape Town chased it down comfortably in 16.5 overs.

The match featured noteworthy moments in the stands too. In the 15th over of Paarl Royals’ innings, the cameras captured a girl swiftly finishing a glass of beer in one go, accompanied by cheers from some members of the crowd.

In the match, Jos Buttler was the highest run-scorer for Paarl Royals, contributing 46 runs off 31 balls. He formed a solid opening partnership of 62 runs with Jason Roy (38 off 14) in 4.3 overs.

Despite efforts from Captain David Miller (20 off 21) and Mitchell Van Buuren (28 off 24), Thomas Kaber’s impressive bowling performance of 3-20 helped MI Cape Town restrict Paarl Royals to a total below 175.

For MI Cape Town, Ryan Rickelton once again displayed an outstanding batting performance, scoring 94 off 52 balls. His innings included seven fours and six sixes, and he partnered with Rassie van der Dussen (41 off 28) for an 80-run opening stand.

Van der Dussen hit four fours and two sixes before being dismissed by Tabraiz Shamsi (2-35).

He posted scores of 87 off 51 against Durban’s Super Giants, 98 off 49 against Joburg Super Kings, and 58 off 33 against Sunrisers Eastern Cape before delivering another notable performance on Friday.
