Since Samit Dravid’s cricketing career began, there have been numerous expectations and his future performance largely depends on how well he copes with the pressures associated with being a son of one of India’s greatest cricketers – Rahul Dravid.
In age-group cricket, he has already made a name for himself in Indian cricketing circles, despite being so young. This is because like his father, Samit is equally promising as a cricketer and that’s why there is anxiety on how his career will progress in future.
On Saturday, Samit was selected to play for India U-19 team in the upcoming multi-format series against Australia U-19. Star Sports Kannada released a video on their official X handle where they show Samit discussing his selection into the India Under 19 squad.
Samit says in the clip, “First of all, I am very happy to be selected and thank you for all your wishes. I think I am feeling great, I worked very hard for this moment.”
Samit Dravid Talks About His Selection for the India Under-19 Squad
Samit has been playing at the school and district levels, representing his school and state in various age group tournaments. He has displayed significant prowess as a batsman, frequently batting in the top order, similar to his dad. Samit has also proven himself as a consistent run-scorer even at junior-level cricket.
Samit has already made headlines with some impressive performances in junior cricket tournaments. For instance, he scored centuries during Under-14 and Under-16 matches which is indicative of a future cricket talent.
In 2019, Samit scored a century for Mallya Aditi International School in an Under-14 state-level tournament held in Karnataka and this brought him to the limelight.
While it is too early to make direct comparisons, Samit’s playing style has been likened to being technically sound largely due to emphasis on classical shots; it reveals more about the father’s influence than anything else.
